UPDATE: This position is now closed.

We’re recruiting an accomplished scientist for a program officer position in the Biomedical Technology (BT) Branch of our Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences (BBCB). The successful applicant will be responsible for the scientific and administrative management of a portfolio of research grants and will stimulate, plan, advise, direct, and evaluate program activities related to their field of expertise.

The BT Branch supports research to discover, create, and develop innovative technologies for biomedical research. Technology development often requires multidisciplinary and team-oriented approaches and can lead to new or improved instrument development that has broad application to medical research. Areas of emphasis include computational infrastructure, molecular imaging, and dynamics, and technologies to elucidate structural and functional biology. The position requires stewardship of grant awards related to technical development, national and regional centers, and resources. Applicants should have expertise in bioanalytical, microscopy, or cell imaging technologies. Familiarity with NIH extramural funding as an applicant, reviewer, or NIH scientific administrator is a plus, and outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential.

The position is being advertised as part of the NIH global recruitment for Health Scientist Administrators. There will be two GS-12/13/14 Health Scientist Administrator (Program Officer) vacancy announcements: one for federal employees (candidates with current or former federal employment status) and one for the public (candidates without such status). The announcements will open on May 17 and close on May 26.
