I’m pleased to announce that the funding opportunity announcement (FOA) for the Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA) for early stage investigators (ESIs) will be reissued in the spring of 2023. MIRA provides support for a research program in an ESI’s laboratory that falls within the NIGMS mission. For details, see NOT-GM-23-017.
The reissued FOA will essentially be the same as the previous one, with a couple of minor changes:
- There will be two application receipt dates per year—February and October.
- Applications must include a plan for enhancing diverse perspectives, which is a new requirement for this FOA.
Important Note: MIRA FOA PAR-22-180 funding is limited to eligible NIGMS-funded investigators and new investigators. Current ESIs should not apply to PAR-22-180. ESI MIRA applications will be reviewed separately from MIRA applications submitted to PAR-22-180.
With this new reissue, will applications be accepted for February 2023? Thank you.
According to https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-GM-23-017.html, the first receipt for the reissuance of ESI MIRA FOA will be in October 2023.
Hello, with this new reissue, if someone is currently an ESI which will expire before Oct 2023 and wanted to apply for Feb 2023 cycle, should they apply to PAR-22-180 as a new investigator? Thank you
Per NIH Guide notice NOT-GM-23-017, the ESI MIRA FOA PAR 20-117 will be reissued. Early stage investigators should not apply to PAR-22-180, which is limited to eligible NIGMS-funded investigators and new investigators.
When will this FOA be announced?
Thank you for your interest in the ESI MIRA program. The FOA has been published. You can read more in our Feedback Loop post.
