With the departure of Ming Lei, a search is open for an outstanding candidate to serve as director of our Division for Research Capacity Building (DRCB).
DRCB seeks to enhance the research, research training, research infrastructure, and faculty development of institutions in states and jurisdictions that have historically received low levels of NIH support. DRCB is thus responsible for both broadening the distribution of NIH biomedical research funding and supporting NIGMS’ commitment to developing a diverse biomedical research workforce. DRCB manages a number of highly impactful initiatives, including the Institutional Development Awards (IDeA), Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH), Support for Research Excellence (SuRE), and Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) programs.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to set scientific priorities, lead change, and improve the biomedical research enterprise. The DRCB director is a key member of the NIGMS senior leadership team and supervises a staff of approximately 15 program officers. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in a field related to the Division’s portfolio. The ideal candidate will have considerable biomedical research experience in at least one of the Division-supported areas. They will also have recognized research management and leadership abilities and knowledge related to the NIGMS mission.
For additional information and application instructions, please see the vacancy announcement. NIGMS will accept applications for at least 45 days, beginning today, November 28. The application period will remain open until filled.
