NIGMS is pleased to announce our participation in Phase II of the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics for Underserved Populations (RADx-UP), a $500 million NIH-wide initiative to understand and reduce morbidity and mortality disparities for vulnerable and underserved populations disproportionately affected by COVID-19. The initiative funds a national coordination center and a network of projects across the United States aimed at improving COVID-19 testing and understanding COVID-19 health disparities.
Four new RADx-UP Phase II funding opportunity announcements have been published:
- Community-Engaged COVID-19 Testing Interventions Among Underserved and Vulnerable Populations (U01 Clinical Trial Optional)
RFA-OD-21-008
Supports research projects that apply the scientific knowledge gained in 2020 and 2021 to expand testing interventions to reduce COVID-19 disparities among underserved and vulnerable populations and to address scientific questions on interventions to increase access and uptake of COVID-19 testing, given the increasing availability of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.
Application deadline: July 7, 2021
Earliest start date: October 2021 - Notice of Special Interest: Emergency Competitive Revisions for Community-Engaged COVID-19 Testing Interventions Among Underserved and Vulnerable Populations (Emergency Supplement – Clinical Trial Optional)
NOT-OD-21-103
Supports competitive revisions of eligible NIH awards that apply the scientific knowledge gained in 2020 and 2021 to expand testing interventions to reduce COVID-19 disparities among underserved and vulnerable populations and to address scientific questions on interventions to increase access and uptake of COVID-19 testing, given the increasing availability of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.
Application deadline: May 24, 2021
Earliest start date: September 2021 - RADx-UP – Social, Ethical, and Behavioral Implications Research on Disparities in COVID-19 Testing Among Underserved and Vulnerable Populations (U01 Clinical Trials Optional)
RFA-OD-21-009
Supports research to understand the social, ethical, and behavioral implications of COVID-19 testing, given the increasing availability of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.
Application deadline: July 7, 2021
Earliest start date: December 2021 - Notice of Special Interest: Administrative Supplements for RADx-UP Phase I Projects to Address Vaccine Hesitancy and Uptake
NOT-OD-21-101
Provides administrative supplements to RADx-UP Phase I projects to address the urgent need to expand outreach and education efforts to address vaccine hesitancy and uptake. Applicants are strongly encouraged to form strategic collaborations with the Community Engagement Research Alliance (CEAL) Against COVID-19 Disparities research teams working in the same geographic areas and/or with the same populations to increase engagement with underserved communities to promote public health measures, clinical trial enrollment, testing for SARS-CoV-2, vaccination, and other mitigation measures, as well as to better understand the factors that prevent access and adoption of such actions.
Application deadline: May 10, 2021
Earliest start date: June 21, 2021
