Wanted: Research Capacity Building Program Director

UPDATE: This position is now closed.

We’re recruiting an accomplished scientist to manage a portfolio of research grants in our Division for Research Capacity Building (DRCB). Job responsibilities involve working collaboratively with other staff to stimulate, plan, advise, direct, and evaluate program activities related to their field of expertise. The candidate selected will manage grants funded through the Native American Research Centers for Health and Institutional Development Award programs (visit the DRCB website for a full list of programs).

Applicants should have a bachelor’s or graduate/higher level advanced degree in a medical, health sciences, or allied sciences field related to the work of the position. Individuals with a strong background in clinical, translational, or behavioral research and expertise in Tribal affairs and culture are strongly encouraged to apply. For this position, outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential, and familiarity with NIH extramural funding as an applicant, reviewer, or NIH scientific administrator is a plus. All interested candidates should send a letter of interest to Krishan Arora and Michele McGuirl.

The position is included in the NIH global recruitment for health scientist administrators. There will be two GS-12/13/14 HSA (program officer) vacancy announcements for this position: one for federal employees (candidates with current or former federal employment status) and one for the public (candidates without such status). The new vacancy announcement will open on September 18 and close on September 27.  The original vacancy announcement for this position was open from May 15 to May 24, but the position has not been filled.
