Early career investigators (postdoctoral and faculty) are often seeking a mentored research experience to further develop their careers in biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research. This includes new and early stage investigators who are doing research within the NIGMS mission and don’t have a major research grant. To make it easier to find the right program, we’ve launched a new web resource, Which NIGMS Mentored Career Development Award Is Right for Me?
By answering a series of yes/no questions in this interactive decision tool, candidates can identify a potential fit to one or more of the mentored career development awards that NIGMS supports, including K08, K23, K25, K99/R00 NIH Pathway to Independence, and K99/R00 MOSAIC.
The questions work through the eligibility criteria for the different award types. For example:
- Will you be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time of award?
- Do you hold a health professional doctoral degree?
- Are you an investigator conducting NIH-relevant research in a mentored, postdoctoral training position with no more than 4 years of postdoctoral experience?
- Are you in, or will you be in, a full-time faculty position or equivalent by the time of award?
- Do you interact directly with patients for the purpose of your research, i.e., conduct patient-oriented research?
You can click on “Tell me more” options for additional information as you work your way through the decision tree.
We encourage you to visit the webpage and share this resource with your colleagues.
