We’re pleased to announce that the IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) funding opportunity announcement (FOA) (PAR-20-102) has been reissued. INBRE fosters the development, coordination, and sharing of research resources and expertise that expand research opportunities and increase the number of competitive investigators in IDeA-eligible states. The program achieves these goals through partnerships between research-intensive and primarily undergraduate institutions, community colleges, and tribally controlled colleges and universities.
This funding opportunity will continue to assist these institutions in 1) implementing technologies and other resources needed for state-of-the-art biomedical and behavioral research and 2) providing research experiences to students at participating institutions.
This FOA expands the program’s networks to include national laboratories supported by federal agencies in IDeA states as partner organizations to provide students with a range of research opportunities. The proposed scientific network can now also include new undergraduate institutions that haven’t previously been part of the network.
In addition, the required Bioinformatics Core will become the Data Science Core for Biomedical Research. This newly created Data Science Core will provide resources for research, education, and training to expose undergraduate students to data science research and engage a broader community with expertise in biomedical data sciences and related disciplines such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality technologies.
