  1. Applying for these so-called innovative awards seems to be a waste of time! Nobody really understands what the reviewers are looking for. The review criteria are very vague, and you have folks that are not experts in your field judging whether your proposal is innovative or not. It seems that your name and scientific affiliations play a bigger role in determining your success (take a look at past recipients and their “interesting” proposals). Comments from reviewers don’t really help PIs determine whether an unfunded application stands a chance if revised and submitted anew.
