We’re pleased to announce that the notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) for the Innovative Programs to Enhance Research Training (IPERT) has been reissued (PAR-24-252). IPERT supports innovative educational activities that equip participants at various career stages with the skills required for careers in the biomedical research workforce. NIGMS prioritizes programs that are open to participants nationwide.
First application due date: October 17, 2024
Earliest start date: July 2025
This NOFO incorporates a number of changes to the program, including the following:
- Only new applications will be accepted. Renewal applications are not allowed. As before, resubmission applications are also not allowed.
- Applications may focus on one or more of the following:
- Courses for skills development
- Mentoring activities
- Curriculum or methods development
- Applications with senior/key personnel who have related current or previous NIGMS IPERT or R13 support must describe how the proposed program significantly differs from or expands upon the previously funded program.
- Criteria for nonresponsive applications have been added. Applications with nonresponsive characteristics may be withdrawn without review.
- The content of the research education plan has been significantly revised and reorganized.
- Applications must include a plan for enhancing diverse perspectives.
- An optional research education activities attachment that includes syllabi or outlines of required training activities may be included.
- NOFO-specific appendices have been eliminated. Applications may only contain appendices that are allowed according to the SF424 Application Guide [PDF]. Applications that contain any additional appendices will be withdrawn without review.
Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to thoroughly read the NOFO for all details and instructions. Additional information about IPERT can be found on its webpage.
