We’re seeking highly qualified scientists to serve as scientific review officers in the Scientific Review Branch (SRB) of our Division of Extramural Activities.

SRB conducts the initial evaluation for scientific and technical merit of applications for funding through grants and cooperative agreements in areas of research that NIGMS supports. The SRB’s key mission is to ensure that NIGMS grant applications receive expert, timely peer review, while avoiding bias and conflicts of interest in accordance with federal law and departmental policies.

We’re recruiting accomplished scientists for program officer positions in the Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences (BBCB). The selected candidates will be responsible for scientific and administrative management of a portfolio of research grants, and will stimulate, plan, advise, direct, and evaluate program activities related to their field of expertise.

We’re seeking two highly qualified scientists to serve as program directors in the Genetic Mechanisms and Developmental and Cellular Processes Branches of our Division of Genetics and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (GMCDB).

GMCDB supports research grants focused on understanding the structure and function of cells and cellular components and the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie inheritance, gene expression, and development. All prospective candidates should have expertise in the mechanism and regulation of genetics including basic molecular processes, cellular biology, and/or developmental biology.

We’re seeking a highly qualified scientist to serve as a branch chief in our Division of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biological Chemistry (PPBC). This is a newly created position for the Division as it reorganizes into three branches. Applicants should have significant interest and experience in the scientific areas managed by the Division, which will continue to encompass all the existing research portfolios and will generally be arranged into branches covering physiology and clinical sciences, biochemistry and molecular pharmacology, and chemistry and chemical biology. We’re seeking a highly qualified scientist to serve as a branch chief in our Division for Research Capacity Building (DRCB). This is a newly created position for the Division as it reorganizes into three branches. Applicants should have significant interest in the programs managed by the Division, which seek to build capacity for conducting basic, clinical, behavioral, and translational research that fall in the mission areas of NIH. These include the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) program, which supports research, research workforce development, and research infrastructure improvements in states where levels of NIH research funding have historically been low; the Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH) program; the Support for Research Excellence (SuRE) program; and the Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) program.
