To continue our efforts to catalyze the modernization of biomedical research training and career development, we invite eligible institutions with NIGMS training (T32, T34), certain research education (R25), or institutional career development (K12) awards to apply for administrative supplements to develop and implement curricular, training, or administrative activities to enhance:

NIGMS Administrative Supplements to Support Undergraduate Summer Research

We’re offering another round of administrative supplements to provide summer research experiences for undergraduate students. These supplements are open to all NIGMS-funded investigators with active R01, R35, and R37 awards, including those in their final year of funding. We’ll accept requests under PA-20-272, Administrative Supplements to Existing NIH Grants and Cooperative Agreements (Parent Admin Supp Clinical Trial Optional). The research experiences can be conducted remotely or in person, depending on the institutional policies of each applicant.

Wanted: Predoctoral Basic Biomedical and Medical Science Training Programs Branch Chief

We’re seeking a branch chief for our Division of Training, Workforce Development, and Diversity (TWD). Applicants should have interest and experience in the areas managed by the Predoctoral Basic Biomedical and Medical Science Training Programs Branch. Position responsibilities include: programmatic and administrative planning, management, and evaluation; optimization of branch procedures; and oversight of the grant portfolio activities of the branch program directors. The branch chief will also manage a grant portfolio and will work closely with the other TWD branch chiefs and the TWD division director. Outstanding written and oral communication skills and a commitment to enhancing the diversity of the biomedical research workforce are essential. Candidates should have an interest in supervising and mentoring a team of program directors and serving as a leader within the branch, the division, and NIGMS.

We’re pleased to share that the Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) have been reissued. MOSAIC, a trans-NIH initiative that NIGMS oversees, has two components: a postdoctoral career transition award (K99/R00), and a cohort-based mentoring and career development program that supports the scholars (UE5 research education cooperative agreement).

Administrative Supplements for Workforce Development at the Interface of Information Sciences, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Biomedical Sciences

NIGMS and other institutes and centers across NIH are partnering with the Office of Data Science Strategy to promote the development of a workforce with skills at the interface of information sciences, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), and biomedical sciences. As part of these efforts, we invite eligible institutions with NIGMS training (T32, T34), certain research education (R25), or institutional career development (K12) awards to apply for administrative supplements through NOT-OD-21-079. This funding opportunity supports the development and implementation of curricular or training activities that provide individuals with the skills to make biomedical data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) and AI/ML-ready.

We’re pleased to announce a new notice of special interest (NOSI) calling for applications developing training modules for creating safe, inclusive, and supportive research environments (NOT-GM-20-047). The proposed modules should impact individuals from a broad range of scientific disciplines and career stages and cover material not typically taught as part of current institutional coursework. The modules can take many different formats and approaches and should be timely, informative, engaging, easily accessible, and free to everyone.
