We’re excited to host the first meeting of scholars funded through the Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) program to promote faculty diversity:

Thursday, October 14, and Friday, October 15, 1:00-5:00 p.m. ET

MOSAIC is an NIH-wide program designed to facilitate the transition of promising postdoctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds into independent, tenure-track or equivalent research-intensive faculty positions. The program has two components: an individual postdoctoral career transition award (K99/R00), and a cohort-based mentoring and career development program that supports the scholars (UE5 research education cooperative agreement).

The meeting will feature:

  • Remarks from NIGMS director Dr. Jon Lorsch and NIH leadership, including NIH Director Dr. Francis S. Collins and NIH Chief Officer for Scientific Workforce Diversity Dr. Marie Bernard
  • Scientific sessions by MOSAIC scholars presenting an overview of their research programs, chaired by NIH institute directors:
    • Dr. Eliseo Pérez-Stable, National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities
    • Dr. Nora Volkow, National Institute on Drug Abuse
    • Dr. Richard Hodes, National Institute on Aging
    • Dr. Debara Tucci, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders
  • NIH staff panels highlighting programs for early career investigators at academic institutions and within the NIH Intramural Research Program

We invite you to participate in the meeting through NIH Videocast, send questions or comments to NIHMosaicMeeting@nih.gov, and tweet us using #NIHMOSAIC. You can access the full agenda and register to attend on the meeting website. Participants requiring sign language interpretation and/or other reasonable accommodations should email us through our contact form or all the Federal Relay Service at 800-877-8339 at least 3 days prior to the event.

As a reminder, MOSAIC K99 applications are accepted three times per year, and the next due date is October 27, 2021.
